Banks must keep customer KYC current (RBI master directions) — address changes, new mobile numbers and periodic re-KYC all need the account holder’s written request with proof. A one-page letter with the right enclosure usually completes it in a single branch visit.
- Quote the account number exactly as printed on the passbook/statement.
- Enclose self-attested proof that matches what you are updating — address proof for address, etc.
- Periodic re-KYC can often be completed online or by declaration if details are unchanged — ask before queueing.
- Update the same detail in every account and in your Aadhaar/PAN records to avoid mismatch flags.
What happens if I ignore a re-KYC notice?
Banks can restrict debits or freeze the account until KYC is completed — respond within the notice period.
Can I update KYC at any branch?
Most banks accept it at any branch or online, but the home branch is fastest for record corrections. Check your bank’s process.
