Housing societies require a written application and NOC before flat renovation begins — it protects the building’s structure, fixes work timings, and records who is answerable for debris and damage. Starting work without one is the fastest route to a society dispute.
- List the actual work — committees approve specifics, not “miscellaneous renovation”.
- Never touch structural members or external walls without a structural engineer’s certificate and specific society + municipal permission.

Can the society refuse?

Is a municipal permission also needed?
For structural changes, yes — society NOC does not replace municipal sanction. Interior non-structural work normally needs only the society NOC; verify locally.
